PUBG grows 486% after moving to free to play

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds ( PUBG ) switched to the free-to-play model this January, news that has not gone unnoticed by players, and the result of this is the enormous growth that the game has experienced since then. More than four years after its launch, PUBG is experiencing one of the sweetest moments in its history at the user level.

Krafton, its developer, has reported that immediately after the transition to free to play, PUBG experienced a 486% growth in terms of new players. Exceeding the numbers achieved in 2017, the moment of greatest popularity of the title. As if that were not enough, in some parts of the world, that growth has been even higher, even exceeding 500%.

The arrival of new players has also had an impact on the time invested in the game, increasing in some cases such as PlayStation by up to 400%.

PUBG is sweet

The passage of PUBG to free to play has not come by chance the company and the game were prepared for it. At the time of the step, new tutorials were added to the title, an important point to help more players dare to enter one of the most complex Battle Royale in the world.

PUBG arrived in the video game world in 2017 and forever revolutionized the industry. A battle royale genre that for various reasons had not been able to be replicated with the justice it deserved, but after PUBG, there have been many companies that have joined the bandwagon. From the success of Epic Games and its Fortnite: Battle Royale, through EA and Apex Legends from Respawn Entertainment or Call of Duty: Warzone from Activision Blizzard and Raven Software.

All the big companies have wanted to have their battle royale, some with greater and others with less success, but all have in common that without PUBG, perhaps this would not have been possible yet.
